I’ve just read a great article about our friend Dominic Campbell, who’s going some great work with local governments. He’s an inspiring chap, trying to make public services more effective and efficient.

His latest project is called Patchwork, a way of connecting professionals working with families. We created a video for FutureGov to explain how it works. It’s great to help the team out!

An alternative to copyright free images by lewisdarby

You’ve been looking for copyright free images for a new promotion, but apart from always finding the same tired and artificial look, when you do find the images you do want they’re all in completely different styles.

A client presented us with this problem. They wanted to build a narrative for the product they were promoting. Stock shots weren’t cutting it, since the shots that could tell the story were by different photographers, featured different models and, of course, didn’t feature the product. Their budget didn’t extend to booking models, choosing a set, hiring a photographer so they could create their own stills.

Our solution was to create our own animated images, based on the storyboard they’d created with stock images, all completely customised and more importantly all on brand. The clip above is a short test extract from this project, we’re now looking to make the animation more fluid. While our solution was more expensive than stock shots, it offered great value by being bespoke, on brand and telling exactly the right narrative at a fraction of the cost of shooting bespoke footage.

Get in touch if you’d like us to come up with cost effective copyright free images for your project.

We’re creating a project that has is built around some Minority Report style computer screens. As we don’t require sound, we set the studio up in one of our meeting rooms! We worked with four actors who did a great job imagining the screens in front of them, we were thoroughly convinced that they were in operating some very sophisticated technology by the end of the shoot!

The perils and pitfalls of ‘meeting eating’.

This was written by a client/friend of ours, Kate. We love her writing, and this account of lunch meetings is no exception.

The Winning Principles for Branding by Gavin Ricketts

This week we finished a long-gestating project for a major drinks company, all about how to win with packaging. It gave some fascinating insights into how to get branding right, especially in the FMGs category, which have informed the way we now approach our animations, treating each one as a brand in its own right.

That’s one of the joys of the kinds of work we do at Napoleon Creative. Most of our work ‘explains’ something, be it a new product, service, or a complex case study illustrating a client’s success. We’ve learned so much from our clients that’s informed our workflow, the way we work with clients, even the way we approach our creative thinking.

Napoleon Creative is definitely a stronger company for getting glimpses into the research and development departments of so many great blue chip companies!

Utrecht and Paris shoots by Gavin Ricketts

Earlier in the month, one of our clients threw us a logistical challenge, filming on green screen in two locations, Utrecht and Paris. Of course, budget had to be reasonable. And we had just three days to set it all up! Luckily, we’ve filmed in the Netherlands before, and  have an agency we collaborate with over there. Paris was more of a challenge, especially as we were filming the day before the Cannes Festivals started. Camera kit was scarse as it was all heading south for the biggest film event outside of the Oscars.

It was a busy two days. When we got to the client site in Paris, the room we were decorating had these fantastic art nouveau windows, advertising everything from beer to bikes to theatre shows. It was a shame the shoot was done against green screen and we couldn’t use them!
